The war has lasted for generations. In this technological age, no longer must humans risk their lives in combat. Fierce robots operated by remote control make up the bulk of the militaries. Satellites in the atmosphere render the heavens a frenzy of violent confrontation. But the war had little effect on everyday life. The bloodshed is minimal, the disruption to commerce even less. It is a comfortable war. Most of the populace believes they have nothing to fear. Little do they know their world is about to come to an end.

Reign of the Nightmare Prince
Long ago, the Mashaitani came from beyond the snowcapped mountains, determined to make the entire world their own. They destroyed everything in their path, burning villages and taking away many good men and women as slaves. But the river people were strong in their resolve to defend their homeland. Uniting under a great champion of the people, the Mashaitani were driven back to the lands of ice and darkness. For generations since there has been peace. Few now remember the face of their ancient enemy, but the stories live on and there is fear that the Mashaitani may some day return.
Young Rakam is on a Jaribu, a journey that has taken him far into the wide world, a trial of strength and determination in which he must find some great purpose and return to his people. It is the final test before he becomes a Kasisi, a spiritual leader and sorcerer. As Rakam travels home, he finds the land growing strangely silent. It is almost as if all the people have been erased from the world, wiped clean from the landscape like they never existed. Seeing horrors in a vision and fearing the return of the Mashaitani, Rakam races to warn his people of the pending doom. To his dismay, he finds the enemy poised at the far reaches of his homeland. He barely escapes with his life, but the encounter has yielded a great benefit. He has learned the enemy’s weakness. Now he must rush to save his homeland the people he loves.
